Preventing staggering stoppage fees with efficient procurement and shipping services
For a U.S. manufacturer of medium-sized and heavy trucks and diesel engines, it’s critical to operate an uninterrupted production line because a stoppage can cost as much as $9 million a day. Agility works to prevent stoppages by managing the company’s European procurement and export operations, leveraging our extensive road, sea and airfreight services – as well as providing the company with a 365/24/7 on-board courier service for urgent orders of truck and engine parts. When the Agility office in Stuttgart, Germany, received a late-night, urgent order for parts, it procured them from Romania and moved them to Germany so they could be transported to our customer’s worldwide production plants the same day via on-board courier service on a passenger flight. The parts were delivered on time to the customer the following morning, and the production line kept running.
Analyzing customer’s requirements to manage flow of parts from Asia to Europe and Latin America
A leading automaker’s complex supply chain needed re-engineering to improve visibility to global manufacturing and assembly plants, keep parts flowing reliably, and achieve faster door-to-door transit times for shipments. Agility began by installing a control tower in Turin, Italy, to serve as the account’s clearinghouse. An IT solution for tracking every container, shipment and part number enabled headquarters to re-invoice supply costs to its plants. Plus, Agility established procedures for checking shipment documentation to ensure compliance; this prevented shipping obstacles and related delays in exporting and receiving. The customer continues to rely on Agility to manage the flow of parts from Asia to plants in Europe and Latin America.
Innovative in-house supply chain management keeps pace with booming Brazilian automotive market
Agility works with a large automotive group to help it keep pace with growing demands in the Brazilian automotive market. Twenty-two Agility employees manage the manufacturer’s supply chain in-house at the customer’s facilities, where they coordinate with global suppliers and handle shipments that feed production lines. Agility manages a global supply chain that oversees parts and materials shipments picked up each morning in Europe for delivery to the customer’s production lines by the following afternoon. By operating inside the customer’s facility, the Agility team is able to help its customer make strategic decisions to shape its supply chain for the greatest efficiency and cost savings today and for years to come.
